Inside the ring road: America’s weakened global image

NEWS AND NOTICES:
So how is the United States viewed on the world stage right now? A major review is not very promising.
“The prevailing view among Americans is that America’s influence in the world is weakening – and China’s is growing,” advises a new in-depth study from the Pew Research Center.
“It seems most American adults don’t think their country wins the competition for geopolitical influence,” wrote Aidan Connaughtona Harvard-trained analyst.
Let’s get to the numbers:
47% of American adults say that the influence of the United States in the world is “weakening”; 10% say the same about China’s influence.
32% overall say US influence “stays about the same”; 22% say the same about China.
19% overall say US influence is “growing”; 66% say the same about China.
And of course there is a partisan divide.
“Views of the relative influence of these two powers on the international stage are closely associated with both partisanship and ideology. Republicans and Republican-leaning Independents are much more likely than Democrats and Democratic-leaning Independents to say that American influence in the world has weakened (63% and 37%, respectively),” Mr. Connaughton.
“Self-described conservative Republicans are significantly more likely than moderate or liberal Republicans to hold this view (70% versus 47%), while liberal Democrats are more likely than conservative or moderate Democrats to say that American influence has declined (43% vs. .32%),” the analyst said.
The survey of 3,581 American adults was conducted March 21-27 and released Thursday.
MAYRA PURIFIES THE AIR
representing Mayra Flores — a conservative Republican from Texas and the first Mexican-born woman to be elected to Congress — is a symbol of changing times, some say.
“His victory signifies the growing shift of Hispanic voters connecting to a more conservative message,” wrote Salena Zitoa New York Post columnist who spoke with the lawmaker about her victory.
“Flores said she got involved with her local Republican party several years ago when she realized she aligned with their views on faith, education and safety. borders,” Ms. Zito noted.
“She said Hispanic voters see themselves as Americans, while Democrats see Hispanic voters as an ethnic voting bloc,” she wrote.
“Because of that, they felt entitled to vote. The problem is that they don’t represent our values of faith, community, work ethic, or the desire to seek better opportunities,” Ms. Flores told the columnist.
“I ran because I wanted to give back to this incredible country that has given me so much. I achieved the American Dream and I just want all of our children to achieve the American Dream too. I ran because I didn’t want it to get away from me. I won because people heard that in me,” the lawmaker said
Ms. Zito, by the way, titled her column “Why Mexican-born Representative Mayra Flores is the future of the Republican Party.”
COLLEGE CANCEL CULTURE FLOURISHES
Signals of virtue and pleas for judgment continue to erupt on American college campuses.
“Over the past school year, the cancel culture has destroyed faculty careers, erased campuses of the names and statues of their founding fathers, and denied conservative students equal rights in the public square of their colleges. and universities,” wrote Jennifer Kabbypublisher of The College Fix – a publication written by students.

College Fix, which tracks such incidents,” Ms Kabbany said.

Ms Kabbany also identified the top 10 “most ridiculous campus cancellations in the 2021-22 school year”.

Yes, gas prices are amazing across the country and can reach $6.33 in places like Los Angeles according to GasBuddy.com.
Experts and analysts are still debating the complex causes and pondering President Biden’s promise to provide relief to consumers.
” Since the day President Biden became president, gas prices more than doubled from $2.39 on inauguration day to nearly $5.00 today. He now says he wants to temporarily suspend the federal gas tax of 18 cents. After the election, the tax will return and all of his policies that drove up gas prices will continue,” Grover Norquistfounder of Americans for Tax Reform, said in a statement.
“Mr. Biden’s announcement is the latest White House gimmick to distract voters from the Biden administration’s failed policies that have dampened U.S. energy production, driving inflation to the highest levels since December. 1981 and a 34.6% increase in energy prices over the past year,” the organization said in a brief analysis, noting that the former president barack obama himself dismissed the idea of a federal gas tax exemption as a “trick”.
