Ellen Wink appears in a Norwalk Police Department photo.

A Connecticut Republican election official is charged with murdering a tenant by showing up with a gun and shooting him four times in the chest. The official, however, could be about to claim self-defense.

The Norwalk Police Department wrote that at 11:52 a.m. on Jan. 20, 2022, a dispatch center received a 911 call for a “disturbance” at 16 Nelson Avenue.

“Arriving Patrol Division officers located a male victim in the residence with gunshot wounds,” police wrote. “Norwalk Hospital Emergency Medical Service assessed the male victim and declared him deceased.”

The rest of the message asked for advice from potential witnesses and let the community know that no threats were pending.

A few hours later, more details were revealed.

The ministry said that Ellen Wink, 61, from a nearby address at 18 Nelson Avenue, had been arrested and charged with murder. The “disturbance” was between Wink and a male victim; the male victim had “several gunshot wounds”, police reiterated.

Wink’s bond was set at $1 million; a hearing date was scheduled for February 1, 2022.

The victim was later identified as Kurt Lamette54. Prosecutors in a brief arraignment on Friday identified Lametta as Wink’s tenant, the Stamford lawyer reported.

“Wink and the victim in this case had numerous interactions over the course of a month,” the prosecutor said. Michelle Manning Friday, according to Attorney. “She then very clearly showed her anger towards the victim. This anger escalated to the point where she shot him at his house – she brought the gun to this house and shot him yesterday. This, in the state’s view, shows that she is a very dangerous person who lets her anger guide her finger.

A police report obtained by the Attorney suggests that Wink can invoke self-defense. She allegedly told a 911 dispatcher that Lametta “came” to her when she went to clean her apartment. It is unclear why she believed she could enter Lametta’s apartment.

“He was after me,” Wink allegedly told the dispatcher, according to the police report obtained by the Attorney.

“I’m so tired of this guy,” she allegedly continued. “He’s on the ground.”

A detective went on to describe the stream of consciousness.

“She said she kept telling him to get out and she had had enough,” said a police report quoted by the Stamford newspaper. “Wink continued to ramble on about the problems caused by Kurt Lametta.”

Another tenant reportedly told police that after a loud bang, it was Lametta, the victim, who shouted to call 911.

Although Lametta reportedly suffered four wounds, Wink apparently said she fired five revolver shots and that Lametta was “(expletive) driving me crazy.” Wink’s boyfriend said he heard a bang, a pause and a few more bangs – possibly evidence that could backfire on Wink – but then added that Lametta was “a big bully” and that Wink had “afraid” of him.

Time, a Hearst Connecticut Media site, said Wink was “previously arrested in September after an argument with her tenant.” the Attorney said Lametta was the same renter referenced in the September 2021 incident.

“At the time, Wink locked the tenant out of the house and threw away his personal belongings, including clothing, jewelry and cash, according to Norwalk Police Sgt. Sophie Gulino“, Time said of the 2021 incident.

That case, however, is now “statutory sealed,” according to a note on an online court filing. A court date of April 22, 2022 has been set in this case.

Wink’s murder arrest does not yet appear on the court system docket.

The criminal records cited by the Attorney showed a history of issues between the two dating back to September 2020.

Another local news site, Nancy on Norwalk, which describes itself as an “independent, not-for-profit news site” founded by former corporate media professionals, said it had obtained a warrant for his arrest. the aftermath of the September 18, 2021 incident before the case was sealed.

The website reported that Wink was charged last year with criminal mischief, theft and criminal lockout in connection with that earlier landlord-tenant dispute. The complaining witness testified that he “rented a room in Wink’s house at 16 Nelson Ave. and she locked him in and threw his things in the trash,” the website said in a summary of the documents. the case.

Police documents say Wink told authorities the tenant hadn’t paid his rent and that she was “tired of arguing with him because he was late every month.” Thus, Wink would have claimed that she had taken her tenant’s belongings to the dump. The tenant identified the discarded items as jewelry, clothing, and $500 in cash.

Police reportedly said they gave Wink multiple opportunities to allow the tenant into the house, but “she refused to do so,” according to Nancy on Norwalk. When police told Wink they were going to charge her, she reportedly became “adamant that she should be arrested.” And so she was — and her bail was reportedly set at $2,000, the website reported.

Wink’s Facebook page is full of anti-Joe Bidenanti-Bernie Sandersand pro-Ron DeSantis memes and pictures. It also contains numerous missives that promote the idea that people are masters of their economic destiny and that the government unduly gives handouts to people who do not deserve them.

And she would have complained about her tenant.

“I have a tenant who does not want to leave, who is a truck driver and who attracts unemployment!” Wink allegedly claimed in a Facebook post, according to Nancy on Norwalk.

“Sad on all levels!” she continued in a phrase that seemed to channel donald trump. “I have to go man!!”

Law&Crime was unable to directly locate the post Nancy identified on Norwalk, but found another in which Wink apparently complained about liberal and progressive calls for police reform.

“The current cry is to hold the police accountable,” the message read. “I truly believe the police would do a much better job if the COURTS actually held CRIMINALS accountable.”

Wink shared this post on January 19, 2022 at 7:49 a.m. Her tenant had died just over a day later.

The publication was quickly overrun with commentators on Friday evening.
